Is this recipe easy? YES. Is it delicious… absolutely! This will make the perfect dish for any holiday or family and friend get-together. While it’s incredibly easy to just pick up a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store, this surprisingly is just as easy and in my opinion, it’s more tasty than those store-bought chickens. (Don’t get me wrong I still pick one of those up from time to time to use in other dishes, but if I’m in it for the chicken and the flavor, then this is the recipe I use).
You also don’t need a rotisserie (not many people have those lying around!), you just need your grill or an oven. So grab your favorite bird and brew and head to the grill! Let’s get started!

Ingredients
1 4-5 lb whole chicken (neck & giblets removed)
1 can of beer (tall & skinny beers work best)
2 TBS Olive Oil
1 TBS Cumin
2 tsp garlic powder
2 tsp onion powder
2 tsp Kosher salt
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tsp dried oregano
1 tsp ground black pepper
Freshly cracked pepper
1/2 tsp thyme
Directions
- Preheat your gas grill to medium-high with all burners lit.
- Place your chicken onto a plate and blot it dry with paper towels.
- In a bowl combine the oil and the seasonings, rub it all over the chicken and inside it’s cavity, use every last bit.
- Pour out or drink half of the beer, place it into a beer can chicken holder or place it directly into the chicken cavity. The chicken should be sitting upright on the beer can.
- If you have a gas grill with 3 burners, turn off the middle burner. Turn down the other burners to low and make sure the heat stays at 325 to 350 degrees. Place the chicken in the middle of the grill and close the lid. Do not open the grill for at least 45 minutes, let the chicken cook for at least an hour and 15 minutes before inserting a thermometer. The internal temperature should reach 165 degrees. Every grill is different so yours may need to cook a little bit longer. Once chicken has reached 165 degrees remove it carefully from the grill and let it rest for 10 minutes.
- You can carve it directly on the beer can or remove it. Either is fine, byt be careful removing it from the beer can. You may need an extra hand as the can will be very hot.
