What’s your favorite thing about Fall? Is it the weather, football, holidays, what about the food? Fall has some delicious food & some yummy goodies.
One year my mom was gifted a caramel chocolate covered apple by her boss for Christmas and for whatever reason we decided to try making them ourselves. I’ve started perfecting it over the years & it’s a real hit when I gift them to friends & family.
Caramel apples have always been a favorite of mine, but chocolate covered caramel apples are even better.
The caramel inside is always my favorite part with the tart crispness of a Granny Smith apple. I love making these & gifting them during the holidays. they’re super easy to make & super delicious.

4 large granny smith apples
1 bag milk chocolate chips
1 (5lb) block of caramel
4 caramel apple wooden sticks
Directions
- Clean & wash apples then dry them well.
- Cut a 1/4 of the caramel log off then cut about a 1 inch slice. Roll out that slice with your hand or rolling pin (caramel will become sticky when it’s warm) roll it out to a square big enough to cover an apple.
- Wrap the apple in the caramel sheet, mold it to cover any bare spots. Repeat for the remaining apples. Insert the stick in and place them on a cookie sheet lined in wax or parchment paper. Place in refrigerator until caramel hardens.
- Melt chocolate chips in microwave per package directions, when chips are melted grab apples out of fridge & use a spatula to spoon chocolate over the apples until covered. Place on cookie sheet. Repeat for remaining apples and put in fridge until chocolate hardens.
Notes
- To keep apples fresh longer or to gift them wrap in oversized plastic baggies and wrap with a pretty bow, store in fridge for up to a week.
- if you want to add sprinkles/nuts do this before chocolate hardens, can also drizzle with white chocolate after the milk chocolate has set.
- I prefer to buy the 5lb block of caramel & then vaccum seal what I haven’t used it will last a while & can use it to make more apples later on.
