The Ultimate Guacamole Recipe: A Creamy, Flavorful Dip for Any Occasion

Would you believe I didn’t like guacamole, mainly because I didn’t like raw onions. I’ve since seen the error in my ways. I now love guacamole & raw onions, and making my own guac is a go-to in this house.

Guacamole is the life of any party, the star of taco night, and the perfect companion to your chips. With its rich flavor, creamy texture, and vibrant zing from fresh ingredients, it’s no wonder why this Mexican classic has become a beloved staple. Whether you’re hosting a gathering, making a quick snack, or simply enjoying a cozy meal at home, guacamole is sure to satisfy those taste buds.

In this blog post, I’m going to share the ultimate guacamole recipe that’s easy to make, packed with flavor, and perfect for any occasion. Grab your ingredients, and let’s get started!

Ingredients:

  • 3 ripe avocados, mashed
  • 1 lime (for juice)
  • 1/2 small red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small jalapeño, deseeded and finely chopped (can also use jarred jalapenos)
  • 1 small tomato, diced
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)
  • Salt to taste
  • tortilla chips for dipping

Instructions:

  1. Prep Your Avocados
Begin by slicing your avocados in half lengthwise. Remove the pit, then scoop the creamy green flesh into a bowl. Use a fork to mash the avocado until it reaches your desired consistency. Some people like it chunky, while others prefer it smoother—feel free to mash it to your preference!
  2. Add Fresh Lime
Squeeze the juice of one lime directly into the mashed avocado. This not only enhances the flavor but also helps prevent the guacamole from turning brown too quickly. For an extra layer of flavor, you can also grate in a small amount of lime zest.
  3. Mix in the Flavorful Add-ins
Now, it’s time to bring the guacamole to life! Add the finely chopped red onion, diced tomato, and chopped cilantro. For those who enjoy a little spice, finely chop a jalapeño and add it to the mix. Remember, you can control the heat level by removing the seeds from the jalapeño.
  4. Season to Taste
Season your guacamole with salt. Taste as you go, and adjust the seasoning to your liking.
  5. Let It Rest
For the best flavor, cover your guacamole with plastic wrap, pressing the wrap directly onto the surface of the dip to prevent air from getting in. Let it rest in the fridge for about 15-30 minutes. This allows the flavors to meld together for a tastier result!

Tips for the Best Guacamole:

  • Use ripe avocados: The key to great guacamole is ripe avocados. To test if your avocados are ripe, gently squeeze them without applying your fingertips (which can cause bruising). They should yield slightly to pressure but not be mushy.
  • Don’t overdo the lime: While lime is essential, you don’t want to overpower the guacamole with too much acidity. Start with one lime, and taste as you go.
  • Make it ahead of time: Guacamole is best served fresh, but you can make it a few hours ahead. Just cover it with plastic wrap directly on the surface to keep it from browning. You can also add a layer of plastic wrap over the guacamole before sealing it tightly in an airtight container.

Serving Suggestions:

Now that you’ve made your delicious guacamole, here are a few ways to enjoy it:

  • With tortilla chips: The classic pairing—lightly salted chips perfectly complement the creamy guacamole.
  • On tacos: Guacamole adds a refreshing, zesty layer to tacos, whether it’s fish, chicken, or carnitas.

Final Thoughts:

This recipe will soon become your go-to for all things avocado. So grab your ingredients, make a batch, and get ready to dip into one of the most delightful snacks around!

Happy guacamole making!
