Apple Date Salad — A Family Favorite Passed Down From My Mom

This Apple Date Salad is one of those recipes that instantly feels like home. It’s simple, fresh, and sweet in the most nostalgic way. My mom made it all the time when I was growing up, and it’s one of those dishes that stuck with me long after I left the house.

What makes this salad so good is the balance: crisp apples, chewy dates, and that lightly sweet, and creamy Cool Whip that ties everything together. It’s simple—nothing fancy, nothing complicated—but it hits every time. It works as a side dish, a quick snack, or something refreshing to round out a heavier meal.

I think the really great thing about this recipe is that it’s so easy. It would be a great recipe for you & your kids to make together. If you have any leftover apples and just want to make yourself a single serving, you can do that too, just adjust the recipe to fit your needs, but I promise you’ll want more than one serving.

Fun fact: I actually used this recipe in a school cookbook project during an “apple recipe” assignment. Everyone had to bring an apple recipe and we created a cookbook. I think I still have that somewhere, it’s probably close to 20 years old. Years later, I still smile when I think about it.

Tips

  • Swap out walnuts for pecans.

Don’t reserve this just for the holidays, during the Summer this is a recipe that’s on repeat.
