Sausage Gravy & Biscuits

What could be better on a cold Fall or Winter morning then sausage gravy & biscuits for breakfast. When I moved to the south I quickly learned how important this meal was, and I’m gonna tell ya the truth 80% of the time I make biscuits from scratch, but these southern frozen biscuits from Pillsbury started showing up in the freezer section and I gave them a try. They are pretty delicious & make the morning breakfast work that much quicker & easier.

There is nothing better than using local pork sauage straight from our freezer having a freezer full of sausage, bacon, etc makes our morning breakfast that much more enjoyable, cause I know exactly where it came from.

The mornings have been dipping into the 30s now, so you can bet this is back on the breakfast rotation. I don’t think there is anything more southern then breakfast cooked in a cast iron skillet + biscuits & gravy!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground sausage

  • 1 tsp crushed red pepper flakes

  • 3 cups milk

  • 1/4 cup of flour

  • Seasoned salt

  • ground black pepper

  • 1 pkg. of Pillsbury frozen biscuits

Directions

  • In a large cast iron skillet brown the sausage, add the red pepper flakes. Once the sausage is browned add the flour, be sure to not add too much, you don’t want it to get too dry.
  • Preheat the oven per directions on the biscuit package. When I’m in a hurry the frozen ones are easier to use than making my own. I love the southern flavor.
  • Add the milk to the skillet and start stirring you, bring it to a simmer stirring frequently until the mixture thickens. May take a few minutes, keep stirring as not to let it stick.
  • Add in seasoned salt & pepper to taste. I like a lot of ground pepper.
  • Once ready serve over warm biscuits.
